In Roco Kingdom you catch Jinies with Buddy Pods, the game's capture item. Find a Jini in its habitat, weaken or approach it, then throw a Buddy Pod. To find specific species, unlock Owl Sanctuaries and place Jini seeds there to attract them. Keep an eye out for rare prismatic and alternate-colour individuals.

With more than 400 Jinies at launch, catching is where you'll spend most of your time in Roco Kingdom. Here's how it works, based on the Chinese release and the global previews, and how to find the Jinies you actually want.
How to catch a Jini, step by step
-
Find it in its habitat. Jinies live in specific environments: water types near coasts and rivers, grass types in forests, and so on. Exploring different biomes is the fastest way to fill your collection.
-
Engage. Most catches start with a battle. Bring a Jini with a type advantage so you control the fight.
-
Weaken, don't knock out. As in most creature collectors, a weakened Jini is easier to catch than a healthy one. Watch your damage on the last turns.
-
Throw a Buddy Pod. If it fails, keep the pressure on and try again.
Owl Sanctuaries: how to find a specific Jini
Wandering is fun until you need one particular species. That's what Owl Sanctuaries are for. You unlock them with stars earned through play, then place Jini seeds inside. Seeds attract specific species, which makes targeted catching much easier than waiting for a random encounter.
Tips for sanctuaries
- Prioritise sanctuaries near areas you visit often.
- Use seeds for Jinies that cover your team's weak types.
- Check back regularly: an attracted Jini is only useful if you come to catch it.
Rare Jinies: prismatic and alternate colours
Some Jinies appear with a prism-like glow or alternate colours. These are the collector's prize, the equivalent of a "shiny" in other games. Previews of the Chinese version also mention stronger special forms, including boss-like transformations and corrupted "nightmare" variants that show up in specific situations.
Since every Jini also has its own height and weight, two Jinies of the same species can look noticeably different. Expect players to hunt for the biggest, smallest and rarest-coloured specimens.
Treat your Jinies well
How you treat your Jinies affects how they behave. Well-cared-for Jinies are friendly and can even bring you gifts; neglected ones may run away or turn aggressive. Feeding, playing and keeping them in your home all count.
